Logan with Sommer West of the Mississauga Aeros

When Logan Seymour of Bowmanville decided to issue a challenge this coming season to her Clarington Girl’s Hockey team to see who could raise the most money, have the longest ponytail and then have it cut off to help children with cancer, she had no idea how the challenge would be received. Not only has the challenge been accepted by her team and league, but also by the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association, the National Women’s Hockey Association, why even Team Canada hopeful, Sommer West has jumped on the bandwagon.

Logan has set some lofty goals. She wants to have at least 100 girls participating and raise $10,000 for children with cancer. “These children don’t have the opportunity to play a sport they love like we do…they can’t due to their illnesses. We should appreciate our health and donate not only our hair, but also supportive funds to help make their treatment time more comfortable. Hair grows back. Think of how happy a child with cancer would be to know they have a wig made from a hockey player’s hair!” Female hockey players across the country will be growing their hair and raising money all winter.

A national hair cutting event is planned for April 29th 2007 (1 PM at Rickard Arena in Bowmanville) when all the participants will have their hair cut at a specific hour and all funds will be tallied from across the country. Bring on the competition!!!!

Logan has decided that monies raised will be donated split between A Child’s Voice Foundation- Angel Hair for Kids and Sick Kids Foundation.

Sick Kids Foundation is the largest non-governmental granting agency in child health in Canada. This foundation is world- leading in childrens health. Angel Hair for Kids provides human hair wigs for children from financially disadvantaged families who have lost their hair as a result of the A,B,C's of hair loss: Alopecia, Burns and scalp injuries or Cancer chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The money raised will be split between these foundations, and ALL hair raised will be donated to the Angel Hair for Kids program to provide wigs at no cost to children of financially challenged families.
